Learn to Fly Fish
Have you always wanted to fly fish, but aren’t sure how to get started? Do you want to get your kids outdoors and teach them a skill they can enjoy for a lifetime? At Cool Water Outfitters, we love introducing newcomers to this incredible sport. We offer streamside lessons, where we will cover the basics of equipment, casting, and fly selection, and then give you the chance to land your first trout on the fly!
We recommend taking a first lesson at our waters on Spring Creek in Harrisonburg, VA, or Cedar Creek in Winchester, VA, which have limited overhead foliage cover, but offer great opportunities for big trout. Additional lessons can be taken on any of the streams listed on our “day trips” page.
Spring Creek and Cedar Creek require a Virginia freshwater fishing license (click here to purchase)
Advanced Fly Fishing Instruction
Want to learn more advanced casting and mending techniques while fishing trophy trout waters? We can teach you a variety of methods to improve your catch rate, from precision casting in heavy tree cover to deep water euro nymphing & high-sticking. This instruction is available at no extra charge on any of our day or multi-day trips.
